Forty Pieces. Or One.Pool liner decals vs. a one-piece pool border

Both cover a faded waterline. Then they stop being alike.

Only one arrives as a continuous roll.
Only one is custom-cut to your pool.
Only one uses real pool vinyl material.
Only one covers a full 10 inches.

Real Pool Vinyl, 10″ wide, cut to your measured perimeter. On a pool with moulded steps it starts and finishes at the step — no seam at all.

If the upper portion of your swimming pool liner has faded, replacing the entire liner may be unnecessary. A protective vinyl border can restore the appearance of the waterline while covering the existing liner with an additional layer of material.

But not all pool borders are built the same way. Some arrive as dozens of individual adhesive decals that must be positioned and aligned one at a time. Rhino Pool Borders arrives as one continuous, custom-cut roll of real pool vinyl material. Let’s compare what that difference means for your pool.

The arithmetic

One 80-Foot Pool, Measured Three Ways

PoolBorders.com’s own 80-foot listing states what is in the box: “(1) Flexi-Edge Smoothing Tool and (40) 2′ foot strips.” Forty strips laid end to end meet each other 39 times, or 40 times if they close a full loop.

When a pool has moulded steps that interrupt the waterline, Rhino’s continuous border can begin at one side and finish at the other without a joining seam. On a completely uninterrupted perimeter, only one finishing seam is normally required.

39 joins in a run · 40 around a full loop — the pattern has to be aligned at every one.

No seam on a pool with steps · one on a full loop — the pattern never has to meet itself.

About $49 more, delivered — for one continuous piece of Real Pool Vinyl instead of forty decals. Both are less than a tenth of a replacement liner. Which makes the real question not whether a border is worth it, but which one you want on a pool you just saved five thousand dollars on.

Liner replacement is a mid-range figure for a standard inground pool and varies by region, size and liner grade.

What nobody mentions

Your Coping Is Never Perfectly Level.

No swimming pool is perfectly straight. Coping can vary in height, walls can curve, and even small imperfections become challenging when you’re trying to align 40 individual decals.

Every two feet, you’re starting over—positioning another piece, matching the pattern, and trying to maintain a consistent line. That’s 40 separate opportunities for gaps, overlaps, or visible misalignment.

Rhino eliminates the repeated alignment. One continuous border follows your pool’s contours without 39 individual joins to match.

What an 80-Foot Border Costs

On the sticker price a decal kit looks cheaper. Delivered to your door — with the shipping and sales tax that get added to every order — it barely is. Here is what that difference actually buys.

Don’t Just Cover Your Faded Liner. Protect It.

The upper portion of a swimming pool liner is continuously exposed to sunlight, UV radiation, fluctuating water levels, and pool chemicals. It’s often where fading and visible deterioration first appear.

Rhino Pool Borders does more than conceal the damage. Manufactured from 1 mm real pool vinyl material, it creates an additional protective covering over the upper 10 inches of your existing liner.

Instead of sunlight striking the original vinyl directly, Rhino becomes the exposed surface, helping protect the covered liner from further UV-related deterioration.

It’s an attractive, practical way to restore your pool’s appearance while helping extend the useful life of your existing liner and delay expensive replacement.

Restore the appearance. Protect the original liner. Delay replacement.

One Installation. Or 40 Repeated Steps.

The water only needs to drop below the band you are covering, and the surface has to be clean, dry and properly prepared.

Rhino uses 1 mm real pool vinyl material with a 3M permanent adhesive, and supplies two squeegees. You get 3 to 5 minutes per foot to position it — working a foot at a time, following the coping line your pool already has. Full bond develops over about 24 hours.

From a review on PoolBorders.com’s own product page:

“At our curved corners, we ended cutting the 2 foot pieces in half.”

The bottom line

One Continuous Border. Or 40 Potential Problems.

The difference goes far beyond appearance.

Go with Rhino

One continuous border, not 40 individual decals.
One finishing seam, or none with moulded steps.
1 mm real pool vinyl material.
Permanent industrial-grade 3M adhesive.
Custom-cut to your pool’s perimeter.
Protects your existing liner and delays costly replacement.

Or Settle for 40 Individual Decals?

Forty separate pieces to position and align.
A joint every two feet around your pool.
Dozens of edges requiring individual adhesion.
More opportunities for gaps, overlaps and misalignment.
Fixed kit lengths instead of one continuous roll.
A sectional installation rather than continuous construction.

Common Questions

Can I cover a faded inground vinyl liner?

Yes, if the liner is intact and the surface can be properly prepared. A border is decorative and protective, not a structural repair.

How many seams will a pool border have?

Most inground pools have moulded steps, so a single roll starts at one side of them and finishes at the other — no seam at all. On a pool with an unbroken waterline it has one. A forty-piece kit has 39 joins in a run, or 40 around a full loop.

Are pool borders all the same width?

No. Published widths run from 6 to 10 inches. Measure your faded band before comparing prices — a narrower border may not cover it.

Do I have to drain the pool?

No. The water only needs to drop below the band you are covering, which a normal backwash achieves.

What’s the difference between a pool border and pool liner decals?

Pool liner decal kits typically contain multiple short adhesive sections installed individually. Rhino Pool Borders is supplied as one continuous piece of real pool vinyl material, custom-cut to the pool’s perimeter.

Can a pool border help extend the life of a swimming pool liner?

Rhino Pool Borders adds a protective vinyl layer over the upper 10 inches of an existing liner. This shields the covered portion from direct sunlight and helps reduce further UV-related deterioration, potentially delaying the need for liner replacement.
